Fraunhofer IFAM Dresden focuses on fundamental and applied research for the solution-oriented material and technology development of innovative sintered and composite materials, functional materials for energy technology as well as cellular metallic materials.

The service range comprises the industrial implementation of the research results up to the manufacture of prototypical components. Special technologies like additive generative manufacturing, melt spinning, melt extraction, spark plasma sintering, microwave sintering and moulding processes support the material and component development. In the accredited testing laboratory, powder characterisations and tests of sintered materials are carried out according to DIN/ISO standards.

Fraunhofer IFAM Dresden is one of the leading research institutes worldwide in the development of high-performance sintered materials for functional applications. It offers innovative solutions in automobile and engineering, electronics, aerospace as well as energy and medical technology.
